Not only this, learning new words is an enjoyable activity. Below are a few tips by following which you will be able to learn new words and enlarge your vocabulary.

Read extensively

Reading extensively allows you to be exposed to a large number of new words. To achieve the purpose of strengthening your vocabulary, you should choose a variety of reading materials. Not only should you read novels and literary works, but also newspapers and magazines. This will enable you to uncover countless new words. As you come across new words while reading, you should look up the meanings of those words in a dictionary. But it is also very important that you try to make sense of the meaning from the context of the sentence in which the word appears.

Keep a record

A very easy way to build your vocabulary is to make a list of all the new words that you discover. You can then go through the list and practice using these words in your everyday speaking and writing – otherwise you might not retain them for long. Besides, keeping a journal of all new words that you have learned will encourage you to learn even more. It will provide positive reinforcement as it will let you know the number of new words that are now a part of your vocabulary.

Play word games

Crossword puzzles, word jumble, and Scrabble, are a few word games which you can enjoy playing. You will find some word games even in newspapers. Also, there are countless word game websites on the internet.

Engage in conversations

Not only will you be exposed to new words by reading extensively, but also by talking to other people. Make a note of the new words that you hear while engaged in a conversation with someone. You can then search the meaning of these words later on. Furthermore, it is very important that you make use of the new words that you learn in your conversations so that they become a part of your everyday vocabulary.

Here’s How To Craft An Exceptional Narrative Essay

0

Narrative essays basically involve telling a story, based on your own life experiences, related to a particular class theme. If approached properly, working on these assignments can turn out to be a really enjoyable task. Following are a few guidelines which would help you come up with a brilliant narrative essay.

Choosing a story related to the given theme

A narrative essay can broadly be divided into two parts: a story and its analysis. You are generally required to write a narrative essay about a particular concept or issue. But in order to illustrate that theme, you will make use of a personal story. To make your point in such an essay, you’ll rely on a personal experience. Narrative essays mostly do not require much research. But why are students given these essays as school assignments? Firstly, such assignments help evaluate the creative story-telling skills of students. Secondly, they test how well the students to able to connect their personal life experiences with aparticular theme.

The story must have a manageable plot

It’s highly important that the story you choose to write has a manageable plot. A good narrative essay is one that tells a specific story with clear details. But at the same time, your writing needs to be fairly concise. So be careful not to introduce too many characters in our story. Also, do not extend the plot unnecessarily. Being mindful of these elements from the very beginning would help you avoid going over the required essay word limit. As an example, you can choose to write about a particular family vacation, or a weekend out with friends. In contrast, ‘this summer vacation’would be a bad topic for a narrative essay. This is because it’s just too broad to include all the fine details that characterize a good narrative essay.

Make sure you select a story with vibrant details

Another characteristic of a good narrative essay is that it’s full of crystal clear details. In order to make the story come to life, try to enrich it with the use of sensory and descriptive details. At the time of selecting the story, try picking one that is rich in these kinds of details. Narrative essays are basically non-fiction, which means that you have to write about something that actually happened, instead of making up a story. But while trying to remain as true to the actual story as possible, you can use your imagination to fill in the gaps if required.

Outline the plot before you start writing

Before you start writing the essay, make an outline of the story’s plot. Think about the beginning and the ending of your story. To avoid missing out any of the important points of your story, list down all of them in your outline. Choose an interesting starting point, in order to get the readers hooked right from the beginning. Unless it’s a requirement of the assignment, you don’t need to create a formal outline. All you need to do is to jot down the important scenes of the story,as it would help you stay organized while writing.

8 tips on how to improve your academic writing

0

The topic of academic writing is famous all over the world. People are writing widely on the web and in different disciplines so that they can broaden up their horizons by serving different audiences. Well, there are different types of audiences and for this purpose, the goals of writing are also diverse for each piece of writing. Here are some of the top tips on the subject of academic writing which can help you to enhance your academic writing skills and make your writing highly valuable.

  1. Maintain discipline and write daily: Make a schedule for yourself for writing and at least write 2 hours per day. Write on anything on which you feel comfortable. This will help you to be productive and you will be able to write more in less time.
  2. Present yourself with the best tools for writing: There are different tools available for writing. Not only your laptop and other accessories must be comfortable, but also the furniture you use for writing purposes should be able to make you feel comfortable.
  3. Speak while you write: Although, some of you might get offended about using this tip, but it is one of the best ones to add up more clarity to your writing.
  4. Use peer review for a proper feedback: Some of you might consider it hard advice to follow, but the results are much stronger. You can instantly improve your writing by taking suggestions from others. This will also help you to generate crisp, short and punchy sentences which are highly attention grabbing.
  5. Read, read and read the stuff: For writing good stuff, you have to read a lot and no doubt this is one of the innovative research methods which can help you to generate text instilled with your own fresh ideas. You have to go through a variety of disciplines in this regard. Communicating your ideas to others is an art and you must be well –versed with it for effective writing.
  6. Think about your audience while writing: The writing style can vary from one style to another. If you are writing on a blog, then the web will provide you with a larger audience. The writing for the doctoral committee is always different and for others it can be something related to brief and concise summary of some topic. The goal is to write in a clear manner.
  7. Write in a flow: It is hard to achieve this in today’s academic life; the students are expected to perform more because they are expected to do different tasks in the same class. They can also be expected to prepare slides and design committees as a part of academic life. To adjust the writing time in your life regularly, you have to fix up some specific time in which you will do nothing else. Make sure that there are no interruptions and no disturbance around.
  8. Take care of yourself: This is something which is essentially required from you. Take breaks in between the writing so that you can write something better. Exercise for a few minutes so that you will have a fresh mind and body.

Web Design and Development – HTML5, CSS3, jQuery – Design Tutorials, Tools Tutorials

0

Web design and development is a product of skillful application in many disciplines. They begin from production of websites at first, and then reach up to their maintenance. Web designing is a massive field requiring creativity and innovation on every corner and step. Almost all businesses require websites, which are not just a means of advertisement; they’re also their identity and a means for people to understand what a company can do. You may have logged onto hundreds of thousands of websites and would have witnessed the inundation of information on them. Websites are resources of knowledge, they are the new book, and are here to stay!

Web designing requires rigorous homework and application in many different areas. Of course, creativity and innovation are a must, but the task force behind every website requires specialized skills attainment in graphic design, interfacing, standardized coding and proprietary software. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an up and coming discipline where a lot of work is being put in. Right application of resources in SEO ensures your website to remain on top of the pile of search engine results. This is precisely why Pizza Hut wins the battle when you type ‘pizza’ on Google. Sophisticated web designing aimed at achieving its utmost potential will also keep into consideration the users’ design experience. The user experience design aims at improving users’ satisfaction by enhancing their interaction with the products. A good human-computer interface (HCI) can ensure this by increasing the viewers’ pleasure with respect to their perception of a product or service. Key elements of enhancing user experience include visual design and information architecture.

Visual design is concerned with the aesthetics of a website. The look and feel, and the way a website communicates- its graphic design and its visual communication all encompass the website’s stylistic aspects. The whole and soul intention of visual design is to use color, symbols and images to relay the message to the spectators. On the other hand, working on the usability and find ability from the reader’s perspective forms the basis of information architecture. Information architecture organizes and structures the data and information on websites, products and services to make it easily approachable to the reader. Labeling data, removing data redundancy, augmenting find ability and providing easy navigation means can lead to successful information architecture. However, if the users have to employ the search bar to look for something they wish to find then this renders the information architecture void.

HTML5 and its role in web development and design

Last couple of years have seen HTML5 rise in popularity significantly. With changes in internet taking place thick and fast, HTML5 seems to be the main reason behind these up to date modifications. Something which began taking form in 2004, HTML5 has engulfed everything from your smartphone’s browser to your personal computer’s web browser. So if you’re seeking the knowledge of web design and development, then the knowledge of HTML5 shall be your bible! The key thing about HTML5 is the high level functions they allow you to access. The power of HTML5 allows you to easily execute audio and video in a mere two lines of code, instead of individually defining multimedia objects as either audio or video. So HTML really is the new evolution in the domain of Hypertext Markup Language with new behaviors, attributes and elements. A greater set of technologies accompanies it which adds variety to the myriad of websites around today. HTML5 is all about the countless tools that come associated with it. From semantics, that allows you to describe your content better, to styling, which allows expression of sophisticated themes, everything in the HTML5 is a marvel when it comes to making the user’s experience worthwhile.Apart from that, there is improved connectivity- efficient means of communicating with the server, storage- offline data storing meansfrom the client’s end to retrieve it more swiftly next time around, 2D and 3D graphics-allowing for interactive and versatile presentations and demonstrations, device access- compatibility with countless input and output devices, and last but not the least integration and performance- accounting for exceptional speed and hardware optimization. A multitude of HTML5 editors is now available in the market today which can help you craft amazing websites at will. The benefit of these editors is that they give you compatibility not just with HTML, but also with CSS, XML, JavaScript and ECMA Script. One such editor is the Aptana Studio 3, which is an open source development tool and allows developers to check their apps with just a single setting. Apart from the common browser technologies, Aptana also supports Python, Rails, Ruby and CSS3. It comes with an incorporated debugger, GIF integration, IDE customization and operation wizard. Another brilliant editing firmware is Blue Griffon, with a brand new WYSIWYG editor it was made primarily as the next generation HTML5 web editor. It is a freeware and can be downloaded on Windows, Linux and Mac. Along with HTML5 it can aid in creating HTML5 documents too. Moreover, Blue Griffon allows users to make creative webpages and exquisite user interfaces easily. With support for more than nine languages, Blue Griffon makes for one really big shot web designer amongst freeware.

Understanding the Cascading Style Sheets language (CSS)

After spending nine years in the industry, CSS level 2 finally reached Recommendation Status in 2011. Later on CSS3 came in as the latest upgrade in the cascading style sheets category of languages, which is aimed as an extension for CSS2.1. A number of new features come accompanied with it such as animations, transitions, shadows and rounded corners along with new layouts such as grid layouts and multi columns. Unlike previous versions of CSS, CSS3 is divided into different small modules with respect to its specifications. In addition to extending CSS2 features, CSS3 also holds backward compatibility for the previous versions of the language. This cascading style of representing a document written in a markup language is famous for its use as a cornerstone technology in website needing heavy visual graphics. It is also used to write the user interface of many web and mobile applications. The modular approach of the language also aids the developers to design a content rich website with light coding. Attractive visuals, faster page loading and better UIs have to express popularity for CSS3. Selectors, Box Model, Text effects, Backgrounds, Animations and Image values are a few of its many modules. They were meant to make web designing simpler and easier, however, at the beginning not many browsers supported it. But, with the passage of time and changing technologies all browsers now have CSS3 support. The web browsers find it easy to incorporate CSS3 support due its modular build up which demands only the modules to be incorporated one by one rather than tampering with the browsers’ codebases. The modules of CSS3 have an additional advantage that they possess new capabilities which do not hamper those of the previous stable versions. Although there are about fifty different modules, there are four formal recommendations of the CSS3 system. The four main features are Media Queries, Namespaces, Selectors and Color. First of all, what are media queries? It is the most important supplement to the CSS3 engine. It performs the simple function of making the websites quicker, in terms of loading, giving real-time response to the user by allowing the application of particular conditionsto individual stylesheets. This also remarkably ensures that the websites fit different screen sizes. This means you can cater your webpage to different resolutions without fiddling with the content.

jQuery and its existence in the contemporary world

When John Resig created jQuery in 2006, he launched it with the motto of ‘write less, do more’. It is basically a JavaScript library that is fast and full of features. It employs an easy to use API that makes event handling, animation and HTML document manipulation much simpler and user friendly across many web browsers. Again, the intent was to make JavaScript easier to implement on one’s webpage. An ingenious functioning allows jQuery to master the length commands of JavaScript in such a way that groups of them can be called together- much like a subroutine in Visual Basic. You will JavaScript frameworks everywhere around you, but none as popular as jQuery itself. Google, Netflix, Microsoft and IBM, all use jQuery. Let’s take a look at a few of jQuery’s features in detail. It makes DOM manipulation easier than ever before by allowing simple traversal, selection and modification of DOM elements through the help of an open source selector- Sizzle. Sizzle also works cross-border, which supplements its pros further. Then there is event handling- capture events easily, such as the user’s click on a link, without perturbing the HTML code. Animations- an abundance of these are built in, which you can use within your web design. Next up, a library of 19 Kb is a real advantage. Lastly, jQuery is compatible with any browser you use today; be it the Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox or the ever famous Google Chrome. The advances in technology also help in the inculcation of CSS3 selectors.

The power of Photoshop and Illustrator

It is quite evident that CSS3 and HTML5 are the big guns in the field of web designing and hold the monopoly. However, Photoshop and Illustrator just provide a different dimension to web designing. Their easy reach to common man and the simplicity of their use makes them easy to learn and evokes the interest of common man into the field. Web developers have time and again reiterated the fact that Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop allow the making of simple startup designs to the most complex and responsive web interfaces. Resolution independence, picture format support, CSS extraction, symbols, icons, fonts and pixel perfection are a few of the many exciting features of the Illustrator. So how do these features really help? Let’s find out. First, the resolution independence of the Illustrator enables infinite scaling of artwork without causing pixilation. This in turn allows your website to look good on any device. Secondly, illustrator supports all picture format supports including SVG, JPG, PNG and GIF without any hassle. Thirdly, you can work with fonts and icons already built-in to the system whichever way you want. Apart from these, the ‘Extract CSS’ option is a little marvel on its own, which can be good foundation stone when making a new site inspired by another one. Coming to Photoshop- it was invented, of course, as an image editing software. However, with increasing implications of graphics on the internet and the web, it increasingly became popular as a good platform for web design. Many tutorials are available easily on the internet regarding Photoshop’s use in web designing. Some even claiming to teach you the extraordinary in a mere 60 seconds! So explore your household image editor, Photoshop, to the fullest and may be, one day you’ll end up designing your own website.

How To Defeat Stress And Tension Before Exam Time?

0

For any student, exam month can be a stressful time. Having your entire hard-work boil down to a single evaluation can be very tense for most students, and for good reasons. Exam anxiety is completely normal to feel, and something students will learn to cope with over time.

We asked multiple schools and colleges about whether or not their students’ performances are affected by stress, and the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. Therefore, we have taken it upon ourselves to give them the best list of advice we can come up with. We have narrowed them down to four crucial points.

Prepare a schedule

There is no better way to tackle your exams than by drafting a plan. It gives you a clear picture as to where you stand, and how you can cover a given syllabus over a set period of time.

When you start preparing a schedule, first count the number of days you have till the final day. Then see how much course work needs to be studied within that period of time. Then simply divide your time equally and spread it over your duration. This is a straight forward way to come up with a simple routine to get you ready for your exam.

However, make sure that you don’t overwork yourself. Your schedule needs to compensate for your own abilities, so don’t assign too much workload per day. Also, it’s a good practice to give yourself a day or two for a break.

Get a good night’s rest

Overlooking one’s health is one of the most common mistakes students make during crunch time. This includes not taking breaks, not eating properly, but most importantly, ignoring sleep.

Every student should assign eight hours of uninterrupted sleep per day. This means no all-nighters, and no staying up late. If you can’t finish your work schedule for the day, leave it and tackle it tomorrow after some rest.

Contrary to popular belief, staying up late does not help your exam preparation, it only makes it worse. You are more bound to forget things when you are tired and sleepy, thus defeating the purpose of staying up late. Therefore, make sure you sleep on time and wake up fresh everyday leading up to the exam.

Test yourself often

Exam day may be some days away, but that is no excuse not to test early. When preparing for exams, try solving some problems on your own. See how you perform under a time limit for each of the topics you have recently covered.

A handy tool for this is solving papers from the past exams and seeing how you are able to tackle them. Self-evaluation at home will give you a good idea where you stand and what areas need to be worked on more.

It also helps you to get the edge off and feel more confident about the impending test day.

Relax on the Eve of Exam

This may come off as a strange advice to some, but on the day before your exam, don’t study. Or in the very least, study as less as possible, then dedicate your whole day for relaxing.

Prepare your stationary or whatever you need to bring with you on the exam day, take a day off by going to the park, but don’t put an extra stress on yourself.

The reasoning behind this is simple. You have put a lot of stress on yourself up till this point, so now you need to let off some of that load and take it easy. You should be able to walk into the exam room relaxed, confident and feeling great. There’s always a temptation to go over your course material one last time, however, just skim through it if you have to, but don’t stress too much about what you don’t know. You have already done plenty enough and from here on in, there is not much you can do.

So before the exam day, relax, stay calm and feel confident.

Hopefully, these tips should guide the students towards giving great exams without exerting themselves to exhaustion. Dealing with exam is a good life lesson in general as it teaches you about preparing for a big day, and then handling it with grace and without breaking down. Students should remember that exams are not the final straw and are merely the tests to judge their skills. There are many more tests to come and being able to tackle them one by one will get you to your ultimate goal.

Did  a message pop up? Read the message. Does it say that you do not have a wp-config.php file? So create one right now. See a Create a Configuration File button and click it. Now a message will appear on your screen. It will ask you to prepare for the installation. Since you already have the important information related to it, so just go. Click the ‘let’s go’ button right away. Now put the details of your recently created MySQL database and submit them. Now WordPress will check your setting. If the details that you have entered are correct, a confirmation screen will appear. If not, then WordPress will ask you to fix the settings. If you get a confirmation message, then click on the ‘Run the install’ button.

Almost done. Now just write down the title of your new website and your administrative username. Apart from that, be clear whether you want search engines to index your website or not. After you fill all this information, click the install WordPress button. Do not forget to provide your real email address and do remember your password.
